Common Uses of Sodium Sulamyd:This medicine is an antibacterial used to treat eye infections.
How To Use Sodium Sulamyd:Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine may be used around the eye or in the eye. TO USE THIS MEDICINE IN THE EYE: first, wash your hands. Pull the lower eyelid away from your eye to form a pouch. Squeeze a thin strip of ointment into the pouch. After using the medicine, gently close your eyes and keep them closed for 1 or 2 minutes. Wash your hands to remove any medicine that may be on them. TO PREVENT GERMS FROM ENTERING THE MEDICINE, do not touch the applicator tip to any surface including the eye. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, away from heat and light. Keep the container tightly closed. TO CLEAR UP YOUR INFECTION COMPLETELY, continue using this medicine for the full course of treatment even if you feel better in a few days. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
Sodium Sulamyd Cautions:DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU HAVE HAD A SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine or any other sulfonamide antibiotic (such as Septra DS, Bactrim DS, Gantrisin). A severe reaction includes a severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness. If you have a question about whether you are allergic to this medicine or if a certain medicine is a sulfonamide antibiotic, contact your doctor or pharmacist. If your symptoms do not improve within a week or if they become worse, check with your doctor. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE blurred vision when you first put it in your eye. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you can see clearly. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE your eyes to be sensitive to bright light. If this occurs, try wearing sunglasses. It is usually recommended that you DO NOT WEAR CONTACT LENSES while using this medicine. Check with your doctor before wearing them. Sterilize contact lenses according to manufacturer's directions. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.
Possible Side Effects of Sodium Sulamyd:SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include headache or browache; blurred vision; or burning or stinging of eyes. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects: weakness, dark urine, yellowing eyes, fever, sun sensitivity (skin redness), or easy brusing/bleeding. IF YOU EXPERIENCE difficulty breathing; tightness of chest; swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; or if you develop a rash or hives, tell your doctor immediately. Do not use any more doses of this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
