Common Uses of Silvadene:
This medicine is used to prevent or treat skin infections in patients with serious burns. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How To Use Silvadene:
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after application of this medicine. Use a sterile gloved hand to apply this medicine to a thickness of approximately 1/16 inch on all affected areas. Whenever necessary, reapply the cream to keep the affected areas covered at all times. STORE THIS MEDICINE as directed on the prescription label. The product should be discarded after so many days once opened. The number of days depends on the size of the container you are dispensed. Check with your pharmacist or the package labeling to see how long you may use your medicine after opening. TO PREVENT OR TO CLEAR UP YOUR INFECTION COMPLETELY, continue using this medicine for the full course of treatment even if your condition improves in a few days. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.

Silvadene Cautions:
DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU HAVE HAD A SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine or any other sulfonamide antibiotic (such as Septra DS, Bactrim DS, Gantrisin). A severe reaction includes a severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness. If you have a question about whether you are allergic to this medicine or if a certain medicine is a sulfonamide antibiotic, contact your doctor or pharmacist. If you are NOT allergic to this medicine, DO NOT STOP USING THIS MEDICINE without first checking with your doctor. IF YOUR SYMPTOMS DO NOT IMPROVE or if they become worse, check with your doctor. FOR WOMEN: IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.

Possible Side Effects of Silvadene:
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include a burning sensation upon application, rash, or itching. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
