Common Uses of Risperdal:
This medicine is an antipsychotic agent used to treat emotional and mood disorders. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor. Risperidone has not been shown to be safe or effective in elderly patients for the treatment of delusions/hallucinations (psychosis) due to dementia.

How To Use Risperdal:
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Risperdal Cautions:
IF YOUR SYMPTOMS DO NOT IMPROVE in a few weeks or if they become worse, check with your doctor. DO NOT STOP TAKING THIS MEDICINE without checking with your doctor. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL while you are taking this medicine without first discussing it with your doctor. DO NOT BECOME OVERHEATED in hot weather or during exercise or other activities since heatstroke may occur. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.

Possible Side Effects of Risperdal:
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, weight gain, constipation, nervousness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and difficulty sleeping. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience tremors, unusual muscle movements, behavior or mood changes, or rash. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience numbness in the face, arms, or legs; one-sided weakness; sudden vision changes; slurred speech or confusion. FOR MEN: in the unlikely event you have a painful, prolonged erection, stop using this medicine and seek immediate medical attention or permanent problems could occur. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
