Common Uses of Rebetron:
This medicine is an antiviral agent taken orally and an interferon given by injection used together to treat certain cases of chronic hepatitis C.

How To Use Rebetron:
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. THIS MEDICINE COMES WITH A PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. IF YOU ARE USING THIS MEDICINE AT HOME, a healthcare professional will provide detailed instructions for its appropriate use. Ask them any questions you may have about your medicine or giving injections. If the medicine contains particles or if the vial is cracked or damaged in any way, do not use it. WHEN DRAWING A DOSE INTO A SYRINGE, be sure to follow the procedure demonstrated to you to prevent contamination of the vial, syringe, or medicine. Never touch the rubber stopper of the vial or the needle of the syringe with your fingers. CAREFULLY CHECK that you have drawn the correct dose before administration. THE CAPSULES may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. You should always take it on an empty stomach or always take it with food. Taking this medicine sometimes with food or sometimes on an empty stomach may decrease the effectiveness and/or increase your risk of side effects. It may be best to take this medicine with food (more medicine might be absorbed into your bloodstream). DRINKING EXTRA FLUIDS while you are taking this medicine is recommended. Check with your doctor or nurse for instructions. STORE THE INJECTION in the refrigerator between 36 and 46 degrees F (2 and 8 degrees C). Do not freeze. THE CAPSULES MAY BE STORED in the refrigerator or at room temperature below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). ANY LEFTOVER MEDICINE or supplies used with this medicine should be placed in a plastic bag and disposed of as instructed by your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. TO CLEAR UP YOUR INFECTION COMPLETELY, continue using this medicine for the full course of treatment even if you feel better in a few days. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, check with your doctor for further instructions. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Rebetron Cautions:
DO NOT STOP USING THIS MEDICINE without first checking with your doctor. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using this medicine. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to this medicine. Using this medicine alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. IF YOU EXPERIENCE difficulty breathing; tightness of chest; swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; or if you develop a rash or hives, tell your doctor immediately. Do not take any more doses of this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are pregnant. You should not begin this medicine until a negative pregnancy test has been obtained. A pregnancy test should be repeated every month while taking this medicine and for 6 months after this medicine is stopped. IF YOU SUSPECT THAT YOU COULD BE PREGNANT while taking this medicine and within 6 months of stopping this medicine, contact your doctor immediately. FOR MEN AND WOMEN: use an effective form of birth control while taking this medicine and for 6 months after this medicine is stopped. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS DRUG IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.

Possible Side Effects of Rebetron:
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include dizziness; flu-like symptoms of fever, chills, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, muscle/joint aches, loss of appetite; temporary hair loss; or change in taste. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience one-sided weakness (arm/leg), vision changes, poor coordination, cold or heat intolerance, fast/slow/irregular heartbeat, black stools, rapid breathing, persistent sore throat, unusual bleeding or bruising, chest pain, tingling of hands or feet, difficulty hearing, seizures, dark urine, yellowing of the eyes/skin, change in the amount of urine, unusual increase in thirst. Rare, possibly fatal cases of swelling of the pancreas (pancreatitis) have occurred. TELL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you have symptoms such as stomach pain or nausea and vomiting. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY AND STOP YOUR TREATMENT with this medicine if you experience unusual or severe mental/mood changes (e.g., suicidal thoughts or severe depression), or bloody diarrhea. IF YOU EXPERIENCE difficulty breathing; tightness of chest; swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; or if you develop a rash or hives, tell your doctor immediately. Do not use any more doses of this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
