Common Uses of Pentam:
This medicine is an antiprotozoal agent used to treat Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP). It may also be used to treat other infections as determined by your doctor.

How To Use Pentam:
This medicine is usually administered as an injection at your doctor's office or a clinic. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE as directed by the prescription label.

Pentam Cautions:
KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. If dizziness occurs, sit up or stand up slowly. THIS MEDICINE MAY REDUCE THE NUMBER OF BLOOD CELLS WHICH ARE NEEDED FOR CLOTTING. To prevent bleeding, avoid situations where bruising or injury may occur. IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS DRUG IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine. IF YOU HAVE DIABETES AND USE INSULIN, this medicine may affect your blood sugar and insulin requirements. Check blood glucose levels closely and ask your doctor before adjusting the dose of your insulin.

Possible Side Effects of Pentam:
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or bad taste in mouth. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience pain or redness at the injection site; sore throat or fever; rash; decrease in urination; unusual bleeding or bruising; rapid or irregular pulse; signs of low blood pressure such as faintness or dizziness; or signs of low blood sugar such as chills, cold sweats, cool, pale skin, headache, or shakiness. If you notice other effects not listed above contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
