Common Uses of Helidac:This medicine is an antimicrobial combination used with a histamine blocker to treat ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection.
How To Use Helidac:Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine comes with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. DO NOT TAKE products containing magnesium (e.g., quinapril, didanosine, vitamins), aluminum, calcium, sucralfate, iron or zinc preparations within 2-3 hours of taking this medicine. These products bind with the tetracycline in this medicine, preventing its absorption. CONTINUE TO TAKE THIS MEDICINE even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT take 2 doses at once.
Helidac Cautions:BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL while you are using this medicine and for at least one day after finishing all your doses. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to this medicine. Use a sunscreen or protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU HAVE HAD A SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION to aspirin or any medicine containing aspirin. A severe reaction includes a severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness. If you have a question about whether you are allergic to this medicine, contact your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN TAKING BIRTH CONTROL PILLS: this medicine may decrease the effectiveness of your birth control pill. To prevent pregnancy, you may want to use an additional form of birth control. IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. If you are or may be pregnant, check with your doctor for instructions on using this medicine during pregnancy.
Possible Side Effects of Helidac:SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include nausea, diarrhea, black stools, darkening of the tongue, stomach pain, metallic taste in the mouth, sore mouth, or vaginal itching or discharge in women. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
