Common Uses of Focalin:This medicine is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant used to treat attention-deficit disorders. It may also be used to treat narcolepsy (sudden and uncontrollable attacks of drowsiness and sleep), mild depression, and other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How To Use Focalin:Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. Taking this medicine late in the day may cause trouble sleeping (insomnia). If this occurs check with your doctor or pharmacist for the best time to take this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C), away from heat and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as you remember in the morning hours. If it is later in the day or near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Focalin Cautions:DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE without checking with your doctor. DO NOT STOP TAKING THIS MEDICINE without checking with your doctor. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE dizziness. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to this medicine. Using this medicine alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. AVOID LARGE AMOUNTS OF caffeine-containing foods and beverages, such as coffee, tea, cocoa, cola drinks, and chocolate. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor. This includes any medicines which contain diet aids or appetite suppressants. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
Possible Side Effects of Focalin:SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include trouble sleeping, nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach, dizziness, headache, nervousness, loss of appetite, dry mouth, or weight loss. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience change in sexual ability or desire, stomach pain, fever unusual weakness or tiredness, mental/mood changes. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience unusually fast heartbeat, blurred vision, uncontrolled muscle movements (e.g., rigidity, tics, tremors), chest pain, or seizures. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
