Common Uses of Alkeran:
This medicine is an alkylating agent used to treat certain types of cancer.

How To Use Alkeran:
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take this medicine on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions you have about this medicine. IF NAUSEA, VOMITING, OR LOSS OF APPETITE OCCURS, ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist for ways to lessen these effects. Different brands of this medicine have different storage requirements. Check the product labeling or with your pharmacist for the proper storage conditions for your specific brand. Keep the container tightly-closed. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.

Alkeran Cautions:
KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are being treated with this medicine. THIS MEDICINE LOWERS YOUR RESISTANCE to infection. To prevent infection, avoid contact with people who have colds or other infections. Do not touch your eyes or the inside of your nose unless you have thoroughly washed your hands first. THIS MEDICINE MAY REDUCE THE NUMBER OF BLOOD CELLS NEEDED FOR CLOTTING. To prevent bleeding, avoid situations where bruising or injury may occur. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE HAVING IMMUNIZATIONS (VACCINATIONS) while you are using this medicine. THIS MEDICINE HAS BEEN SHOWN TO CAUSE HARM to the human fetus. IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS DRUG IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.

Possible Side Effects of Alkeran:
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include hair loss; nausea; vomiting; loss of appetite; or irregular or absent menstrual periods. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience a skin rash; diarrhea; unusual bruising or bleeding; black tarry stools; blood in urine or stools; swollen feet or lower legs; lower back or side pain; sores on the mouth or lips; joint pain; weight loss; fever or chills; cough; or sore throat. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience stomach pain, yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine, and fatigue. IF YOU EXPERIENCE difficulty breathing; tightness of chest; swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; or if you develop a rash or hives, tell your doctor immediately. Do not take any more doses of this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
